Mini-Ductor Gets a Good Review from Spindle Repair Company

When Claude Valenze got the opportunity to test the Mini-Ductor® Venom™ handheld induction heater at the Candia, New Hampshire spindle repair shop where he is general manager, he wasn’t sure what to expect.

But when his technicians at HST Spindle Repair put it to use on a locked nut in a hard-to-reach spot on the inside of a spindle shaft, they discovered a product that made short work of an often tricky bit of disassembly.

“The Mini-Ductor focuses all the power exactly where it’s needed,” he said. “The unit is rather compact and lightweight, so we didn’t expect it to have the power that it does.”

At HST, technicians specialize in the repair of metal, wood and stone cutting and grinding spindles in a variety of industries, including aerospace, automotive, manufacturing, woodworking, circuit board, and medical.

Improved Access & Safety, Surprisingly Fast

Frozen and locked hardware within a spindle assembly, Valenze says, can be, “very difficult to get at.” The process is further complicated by the proximity of heat sensitive parts and flammable liquids and lubricants. The acetylene torches normally used in the process carry a risk of igniting or damaging other components.

That’s a clear advantage of using flameless induction heat. But Valenze said he was surprised to discover that the Mini-Ductor also got the job done faster. “We were surprised by how fast it worked,” Valenze said. “It heats up very quickly and safely.”

Greater Control & Precision than Acetylene Torch

The power and design of the Mini-Ductor Venom, Valenze said, allowed technicians to apply heat very precisely over a small space, without the risk of overheating. “This was much more controlled and focused,” than a torch, he said. “With an open flame, you can’t control where all of the heat goes.”

Technicians also appreciated the tool’s ease of use, he said. “It works as advertised,” Valenze said.
